To generate an OligoProfile analysis, the user must choose the source and target sequences, the length (k) of the oligonucleotide to be used (1 ≤ k ≤ 14) and the range (R ≥ 1). R defines the number of contiguous word frequencies that the program will add together to obtain an average frequency. This allows to break the target sequence into a set of non-overlapping regions that may range in size from 1 nucleotide, when R = 1 (i. e. no words are added together), to as many nucleotides as needed. Thus, R defines the level of resolution of the analysis. Once the sequences, k and R values are chosen, the program generates a file containing the frequencies computed (.txt format) and a second file in Portable Network Graphics (.png) format with the graphical representation of the results. The large .png files generated by UVWordweb can be visualized with the free software Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) or similar programs.
