Smoothing is similar to OligoProfile. However, instead of adding together frequencies in a given non-overlapping range, this program runs through the target sequence one nucleotide at a time and adds together the values of a certain number R of nucleotides, where R/2 nucleotides are located at each side of the nucleotide that is being analyzed. The values obtained therefore correspond to overlapping segments of the sequence (in which consecutive values share every word but one), instead of contiguous segments, as in OligoProfile.
